What else should I do to get my 2nd product role?
Being a neurodivergent minority, I kept learning ‘n’ number of things during my undergraduate degree because I was just fascinated by technology – whether that’s creating a responsive website based on material design, ML/DL or robotics, although corporate was never my thing because I didn’t know how it operated. That was 7 years ago.
Today, I have 4 years of corporate experience with marketing in EdTech, client servicing in AdTech including >6 months of product experience in a defunct org that dealt with IT SaaS that laid us off because of cash recovery issues. I’m still really interested in anything and everything tech but because I have a Master’s – Product is what I like. I am trying my hands on creating new AI based applications with fine-tuning models. So I have my resume, portfolio with projects, one professional certification yet I am not getting any calls for the product role even though I have some degree of experience in it. Based on my ability to do hand-holding to the tech/product team, I’m excited to get into the firefighting although typical conversation flies above my head. I can learn the art of speaking the unspoken like I have learnt and managed so far. What else do you think is necessary? Should I inflate previous roles, thus relating to product to get considered, do you think it’s permissible?
